A judge is poised to decide Friday whether a Massachusetts Air National Guard member accused of leaking highly classified military documents will remain behind bars while he awaits trial. Jack Teixeira returned to federal court in Worcester, Massachusetts, where a magistrate judge is expected to hear arguments on prosecutors’ request to keep the 21-year-old locked up before issuing his ruling. Teixeira, wearing orange jail clothes, smiled at his father in the front row as he was led into the courtroom ahead of the afternoon hearing.Teixeira, who faces charges under the Espionage Act, is accused of sharing secret military documents about Russia’s war in Ukraine and other top national security issues in a chat room on Discord, a social media platform that started as a hangout for gamers.Prosecutors said in court papers filed this week that Teixeira was caught by superiors months before his April arrest taking notes on classified information or viewing intelligence not related to...Stock market today: Wall Street drifts lower, still headed for best week since March

NEW YORK (AP) — Wall Street is drifting lower Friday, but it’s still heading for its best week since March. The S&P 500 was 0.1% lower in late trading. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 82 points, or 0.2%, at 33,454, as of 3 p.m. Eastern time, while the Nasdaq composite was 0.3% lower.Despite its weak Friday, the S&P 500 is still on track to break out of a long, listless stretch where it failed to move by 1%, up or down, for six straight weeks. It’s up 1.6% so far this week. Much of the strength has been due to rising hopes that Washington can avoid a potentially disastrous default on its debt.Democrats and Republicans are facing down a June 1 deadline, which is when the U.S. government could run out of cash to pay its bills, unless Congress allows it to borrow more. A default on its debt would likely mean a recession for the economy, and economists and investors both widely expect a deal to be made. But some of the hope ebbed Friday after a top negotiator for H...Soleiman Faqiri’s family hopes November inquest into his death will offer answers

The family of a mentally ill man who died in an Ontario jail cell in 2016 expressed hope on Friday that a provincial inquest set to start later this year will provide answers about his death. Soleiman Faqiri died on Dec. 15, 2016, after being beaten, pepper sprayed and restrained face-down in a segregation cell at the Central East Correctional Centre in Lindsay, Ont., where the 30-year-old was held awaiting a medical evaluation at a psychiatric facility. Faqiri’s elder brother Yusuf said Ontario’s chief coroner’s office notified the family that an inquest will begin on Nov. 20 to examine the circumstances surrounding Soleiman’s death. He said his family will finally get to learn details of what happened during the 11 days that his brother spent in jail before his death. “Why was he there for 11 days? What was happening to him in those 11 days? Why weren’t we able to see him?… My family went to Lindsay four times. UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The U.N. envoy charged with trying to protect children caught in conflicts is in Moscow, where she is reported to be meeting Russia’s children’s rights commissioner, who is charged with war crimes for deporting children from Ukraine. Human Rights Watch strongly criticized Virginia Gamba’s reported meeting with Maria Lvova-Belova, saying the Russian commissioner should be behind bars and not meeting with senior U.N. representatives.“It’s hard to imagine any circumstance that would justify Gamba meeting with a suspected war criminal, when there are clearly other officials she could meet with instead,” Balkees Jarrah, associate director of the group’s International Justice Program, said. U.N. associate spokesperson Stephanie Tremblay did not confirm that Gamba was meeting with Lvova-Belova while in Moscow. Pressed on whether there was anyone else Gamba could meet with, Tremblay replied: “Her role is really to do everything she can to improve the protection of chil...Prominent NYC-based pastor and best-selling author Timothy Keller dies at 72
