By Lisa Mascaro | Associated PressWASHINGTON (AP) — With a push by allies of Donald Trump, far-right firebrand Rep. Jim Jordan appeared Monday to be shoring up support to become U.S. House speaker, winning over reluctant Republicans who have few options left two weeks after Kevin McCarthy’s ouster. One by one, Jordan, the hard-charging Judiciary Committee chairman, has been peeling off detractors who view the Ohio Republican as too extreme. Key injuries and poor execution doom the 49ers in their first loss of the season

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 18:40:52 GMT

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — San Francisco’s high-powered offense that seemed unstoppable to begin the season looked awfully pedestrian after losing two key playmakers in a game against Cleveland’s stellar defense. With Deebo Samuel missing most of the game with a shoulder injury and Christian McCaffrey sidelined for most of the second half with an injured oblique and rib, the 49ers struggled to move the ball for most of the second half in a 19-17 loss to the Browns on Sunday.“Any time you lose real good players like that, it’s a challenge,” coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday. “But that’s stuff you’ve got to go through. That’s part of football. I just thought we made too many mistakes, missed assignments and stuff that happened.”San Francisco (5-1) had scored at least 30 points in each of the first five games, but didn’t come close to that against the Browns.Five of the Niners’ first six drives after halftime netted no yards and no fir...
